Janet Soame talks about her efforts to clean up the area around Tar Lakes during Lockdown. It’s amazing and incredibly sad too to see so much rubbish around and three cheers to Janet for doing her best to make things wonderful

At the start of lockdown I started feeding 2 young robins on worms/grubs in the garden.
They soon became so tame they ‘demanded’ more food, flying into the kitchen, eating biscuit crumbs from the dog bowl and sitting on the kitchen beam chirping for more! I’ve been feeding them (outside!) all winter but a bit concerned about leaving the kitchen door open. I do hope they have forgotten their fledgling habits!!
The Other day in Sainsbury’s I went to by some bird seed and the shelf was nearly bare. ‘You can blame that woman on I Love Witney’ a customer said ‘she’s got us all bird crazy’. Well Done Dianne
A recent poll of Witney Garden Birds included, in descending order : Wood Pigeon, Blackbird, Robin, Blue Tit, House Sparrow, Starling, Magpie, Great Tit, Greenfinch, Wren, Dove, Dunnock, Crow, Long Tailed Tit, Chaffinch, Western Jackdaw, Wagtail, Turtle Doves, Bullfinch, Raven, Nuthatch, Cole Tit, Barn Owl, House Martin, Siskin.
Some people did include The Red Kite and the Sparrowhawk but we didn’t really think these were garden birds.
(Based upon our experience of polls, I do hope the Crow won’t be threatening the Wood Pigeon with Legal Action !!!)
We are very pleased with the response to the Facebook Poll on where lovely Witney locals get their news.
With over 370 responses, it’s been a massive success for ‘I Love Witney’ our votes alone were higher than the total combined score of all of the others put together ! YIPPEE !!
Interestingly, rather than consider how to improve their enjoyability or increase their actual readership, we’ve already been threatened with litigation which I find very surprising and rather sad in a way.
